About

About me:

I’m a self-described control freak, addicted to all things chocolate, recovering wife of a former pastor, lover of books, hater of plastic, on a journey of self-discovery.  If you asked my husband he might say I need a hoarding intervention.  Nothing scary or gross, mind you.  But I do tend to keep more than my share of glass jars, and things that maybe someday I can reuse like this.

I’m married 11 years to my best friend, and becoming geekier and more intelligent every day because of it.  Because of him I am familiar with nerdy stuff like jQuery, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and some other stuff I only half understand.

I am called Mama by two amazing young boys, with whom I am madly in love, and whom make me howl with laughter daily. I’m continually being schooled by RAD, and learning to adore my my family more because of it.  I’m new to the Montessori world, and learning so much from it, trying to make my home more of what Maria would have approved.

I am passionate about doing my part to make our planet a more hospitable place for my children and my grandchildren to live.  I believe that even though I am one person my choices make a difference every single day.  I can be obsessive about the quality of food that crosses my children’s lips, sometimes to a fault.  I am a big advocate of locally grown and raised, organic foods, though I do shop at a couple chain grocery stores that carry high quality items when I can’t get what I want at our downtown farmer’s market.

I am self-schooled in areas of holistic health, but have a legit education in religious studies, massage therapy and aromatherapy.  My family are the constant guinea pigs to my experiments in alternative health remedies.  I’m also a Master Recycler, through our county program.  Oh, and my cousin & I mix up some nice little potions at Making Scents for Life.

About this blog:

I am passionate about trash, and making less of it; and using stuff over and over and over; getting rid of plastic, and replacing it with glass, or other appropriate materials.  I like to explore new ways to do all of those things, and I’ll share my experiments along the way.  My hope is that you will be inspired to make some changes of your own.

I’m conscious of the cleaning products we use in our home, and the products that we apply to our skin, so I tend to make some of them.  I’ll share with you as I go, and maybe you will want to give it a try, too.

We are consumers of good quality, (usually) healthy foods.  I’ll offer up some tips, tricks, & recipes if you want to give them a try go for it.

Some of the rest I will figure out along the way, and we’ll see what happens.

If there’s something you think I should post about here, or questions you would like answered please let me know.  If you have something you want to share with me, or some topic you can teach me about please do so!  I am all about sharing and learning from the people around me on this collective journey.
